I’ve always taken pride in an edema-less journey through pregnancy and more or less, a well-maintained weight. So you could just imagine my horror when in the middle of my 32nd week, I woke up with an extremely bloated right foot with edema that extended well up until the middle of my calf. My OB-GYN complimented pa naman that I had “nice feet” two weeks before that (Na-jinx ni doktora, hehe).

Initially I thought it was just bug bite because of the red flat rashes. Then the left foot started to swell as well. Both are still growing enormously up to now despite preventive interventions (walang kamatayang low-salt, high protein diet and feet elevation) that walking, standing, squatting – anything that makes use of the feet for an extended period of time – feels like corporal punishment.

Yesiree, that’s a pitting dent right there.

Of course, that’s apart from recent bouts with numbness and tingling sensations in both feet and hands, lower back aches, heartburn and pregnancy carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists. A pregnant woman just never runs out of things to bear with whatever the semester, no?

Looking out to 35 weeks of pains and joys

Oh, the joys of pregnancy.
