A maternity photo shoot is one of those things I’ve always wanted to cross out my bucket list. But with the steep cost of professional maternity photo services, some adjustments had to be done by an expectant mom.
We had to make do with what we have. Armed with only a Canon Ixus digital camera and a bunch of used props (e.g. bridal veil from our wedding, a belt bought from Gozum in 2007-ish, and an old two-piece suit), I dragged the husband to the bedroom after haphazardly putting on powder and blush on. We caught some maternity shoot ideas from the internet (well, save for the famous heart over belly button shot, hehe), mixed them with our own, and here’s what we came up with:
No major alterations (i.e.airbrush) were done on these photos, except for cropping and some photo effects in Picasa. I just looove Picasa. Such a useful tool for non-tech savvy people like me.One click and you could achieve lomo-ish, vignette, or cross-processed photo effects and mosaics like this (and much, much more)!
Black and white pics were shot using the B&W option in the Canon cam. Jigs didn’t use flash for the pictures, just natural light seeping through the curtain-veiled windows in the room.
One of my favorite shots. No adjustments, no help from Picasa whatsoever
(no, not even cropping!). Just sunlight.
While studio shots might have been awesome, shooting in our miniscule bedroom proved to be a great idea, too. It made us more comfortable and added a more personal touch to the photos, with the mini-nursery and baby stuff around.

Jigs thought of having my humongous feet “photoshopped”, but I refused, as I’ve always wanted photos in their rawest form possible. If I happened to have belly stretchmarks (which surprisingly, I don’t), I wouldn’t want them removed as well. Why hide reality? You only get pregnant once in every three or so years.
40 weeks and already 175 pounds in this picture (at 5’3″).Yep, just 4 pounds less than my husband. Haha. Who says heavy women can’t flaunt curves? 🙂
One of those pictures where we didn’t use any effects
Not to be a braggart, but I gotta say, not too bad for a zero-expense shoot, no?
really really nice! 🙂 i hope i did one too. i'm never comfortable in front of the lenses but these shots are priceless. literally too. haha.
haha! there's always a next time 🙂
